Behold, children are a heritage from the LORD, The fruit of the womb is a reward. Like arrows in the hand of a warrior, So are the children of one’s youth.

Memorial Day 2012

Susannah, listening to the speeches under the big tent

Monday, May 28, 2012-

Once again, we celebrated Memorial Day at the annual 'Old Fashioned Picnic' at the Browns Barn in Wake Forest, NC. What an honor and a joy it was to be surrounded by 1,900 of our 'closest friends' - including many whom were veterans from WWII, Korea, Vietnam, and other more recent wars.

We all had a wonderful time listening to the speeches, riding in the deuce, playing games, eating hushpuppies, and catching up with friends and family. Meemom and Jake came down to celebrate with us again this year - we were so happy to have them with us. Though, unfortunately, I forgot to get a picture with them! Shame on me.

Three of the four Price Brothers

The Price brothers - all over 75, I believe - are so faithful to come to every Memorial Day Picnic. Each of the four brothers shared some of the stories and memories of their time in the service and it was very touching to see and hear of the love they have for Christ and their family.

Mr. Henderson and Mr. Bill Brown also shared their memories and words of wisdom with the gathering. Each man is a wonderful example of faithful service to both America and especially the Lord Jesus Christ.

One of the bigger highlights of our's and many other boys' day was the appearance of the Soldiering Through History men. These men should certainly be admired if for nothing else than the fact that they wore their heavy military garb all day long despite the hot and humid North Carolina Spring weather.

Eleah was privileged to be one of the Veteran-Girls - this crew of young ladies makes certain that all the veterans are well taken care of as they serve the men their NC BBQ lunch.

Memorial Day 2012 marked the first-ever children's parade at the Brown's Farm. The Deuce led the way, followed by anyone (especially children) who wished to join in. Classic cars full of veterans followed as everyone made their way around the pond.

The annual 'dirty foot' photo

Walking around the dusty hilltop in flip-flops all day doesn't make for clean feet!

The games may have been the best part of the little boy's day. A sort of obstacle course/ mission game, each team was timed as they crawled under the 'barbed wire'; threw their grenades; carried a flag; and more before they ran back to the finish line.

As an added bonus to all the fun and games, the boy's even made a nice profit selling sodas to all the hot, thirsty picnickers - and they even had a few left over to enjoy themselves.

We are so thankful to the Lord for a wonderful day to honor our veterans and to praise Christ's name for His wonderful Providences.

Be sure to join us next year!
