These are the "Pillars of Biblical Womanhood" presented by Mr. Brown at the Father-Daughter Retreat. It was noted by my dad that the first four pillars define the identity of the biblical woman, and the final eight are her actions.
1. An Image Bearer, Genesis 1:26-27
"Then God said, 'Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fist of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.' So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them."
2. A Woman, Not a Man, Genesis 2:21-23
"And the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall on Adam, and he slept; and He took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh in its place. Then the rib which the Lord God had taken from man He made into woman, and He brought her to the man."
3. A Disciple of the Lord Jesus Christ, Romans 12:1-2
"I beseech you therefore, by the mercies of God that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.
4. A Member of the Church, Acts 2:39
"For the promise is to you and to your children, and to all who are afar off, as many as the Lord our God will call.”
5. A Demonstration of Unfading Beauty, 1 Peter 3:3-4
"Do not let your adornment be merely outward—arranging the hair, wearing gold, or putting on fine apparel— rather let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the incorruptible beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very precious in the sight of God."
6. A Helpmeet, Genesis 2:18
"And the LORD God said, 'It is not good that man should be alone; I will make him a helper comparable to him.'"
7. A Trustful and Submissive Wife, Ephesians 5:22-24
"Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. For the husband is head of the wife, as also Christ is head of the church; and He is the Savior of the body. Therefore, just as the church is subject to Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in everything."
8. A Keeper at Home, Titus 2:5
"...to be discreet, chaste, homemakers, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be blasphemed."
9. A Domestic Entrepreneur, Proverbs 31:10-31
"Who can find a virtuous wife? For her worth is far above rubies. The heart of her husband safely trusts her; so he will have no lack of gain. She does him good and not evil all the days of her life."
10. A Fruitful Bearer of Children, Genesis 1:27-28
"So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. Then God blessed them, and God said to them, 'Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.'"
11. A Teacher of the Next Generation, Ephesians 6:1-4
"Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. 'Honor your father and mother,' which is the first commandment with promise: 'that it may be well with you and you may live long on the earth.' And you, fathers, do not provoke your children to wrath, but bring them up in the training and admonition of the Lord."
12. A Godly Mentor, Titus 2:3-5
"...the older women likewise... that they admonish the young women to love their husbands, to love their children, to be discreet, chaste, homemakers, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be blasphemed."
