Behold, children are a heritage from the LORD, The fruit of the womb is a reward. Like arrows in the hand of a warrior, So are the children of one’s youth.

The Law of the Lord

The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul;
The testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple;
The statutes of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart;
The commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes;
The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring forever;
The judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether.
More to be desired are they than gold,
Yea, than much fine gold;
Sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.
Moreover by them Your servant is warned,
And in keeping them there is great reward.

~Psalm 19:7-11

As our church body seeks to better understand God’s law, its purpose, and application to our lives, we are reminded of this Psalm which praises the Lord for His perfect Word and Law. God, through His grace, has provided the way of salvation through faith in Christ Jesus and not through our own works, which are as filthy rags Isaiah 64:6. Although we can never be made righteous by our adherence to the law, the law does have a purpose as a light for [our] path Psalm 119:105 that we might know how to live and please God.

“All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.”2 Timothy 3:16, 17.

All scripture includes the law of God and it is vital that we as believers in Christ understand the law and its purpose even under the covenant of grace. As our church takes a ‘detour’ from Deuteronomy into the book of Galatians, I encourage you to listen to this sermon series online. Our family has been extremely blessed by this expositional teaching and I pray that you might be too.
